Abstract

The storage apparatus is used in conjunction with a record card sorter and has a plurality of pockets 1 arranged side by side on a movable dolly 2. These pockets are separated by parallel side walls 3 and are open at the front. At the rear of each pocket is a strip 4 that is spaced slightly forward of a rear panel 5 that extends across and closes the rear of the pockets. The strips 4 serve as guide tracks along which document support platforms 6 are movable up and down. Each platform can be latched in one of a number of manually selectable positions by a latch mechanism.

Document Storage Apparatus

The storage apparatus is used in conjunction with a record card sorter and has a plurality of pockets 1 arranged side by side on a movable dolly 2. These pockets are separated by parallel side walls 3 and are open at the front. At the rear of each pocket is a strip 4 that is spaced slightly forward of a rear panel 5 that extends across and closes the rear of the pockets. The strips 4 serve as guide tracks along which document support platforms 6 are movable up and down. Each platform can be latched in one of a number of manually selectable positions by a latch mechanism.

This latch mechanism comprises a latch plate 7 having a pin and slot connection with the underside of a corresponding platform. Each plate 7 is biased by a spring 8 to the position shown by solid lines (lower drawing). In this position, a tip 9 of plate 7 normally projects into one of a plurality of positioning slots 10 provided in each strip 4.

After sorting, the record cards are removed from each sorter pocket and placed on a corresponding platform 6 of the storage apparatus. When one sort is completed, a manually engageable portion 11 of plate 7 is gripped and pulled against the force of spring 8 to retract tip 9. Platform 6 is then lowered to position
A. All platforms 6 are thus lowered but are also withdrawn toward the operator. This lets each stack of cards drop slightly and be supported on the bottom 12 of each pocket. Each platform 6 is then inserted at position...
