Read Punch Station

Verification of card or tape punching is performed at the same station at which the card or tape is punched.

The card or tape 10 passes between die 12 and punch 14. This punches holes in the card or tape 10 and forces the chad 16 down in the bore 18. A diagonal hole 20 is bored in the die 12 to provide a passageway through 12 to bore 18. Light from lamp 22 is focused by condenser lens 24 and passes through each aperture punched in the card or tape 10 to photoresponsive element 26. With a plurality of punches and verifying systems in line, the lamp 22 is a line illuminator.

The element 26 connects to circuitry which indicates that a punching operation has been properly performed.
