Abstract

The documents 10 are fed successively between a grooved feed roll 11 and a guide rail 12 to stiffen them. A deflecting spring 13 is controlled by the length of each document. Spring 13 operates asynchronously to kick a document 10 down, out of the path of the succeeding document, as it flies toward a stop gate 14.

As they enter, between driven feed roll 11 and overlying, hinged guide rail 12, the documents 10 are bowed longitudinally. They force deflector spring 13 upwardly. Having passed feed roll 11, the trailing edges 15 of documents 10 are pushed down by spring 13, returning into its normal position. This positive spring action insures sufficient clearance for the next incoming document.
