Abstract

High speed step by step electro mechanical drive is provided by the device shown. A toothed wheel 10 is secured to driven shaft 11. An arm 12 pivoted at 14 carries a detent pin 15 shown holding wheel 10. A link 16 connects arm 12 to an arm 17 mounted on a continuously rotating eccentric 18. A pin 21 in arm 17 acts as a driving pin for wheel 10. A link 22 connects arm 17 to an arm 23 pivoted at 24. Arms 12 and 23 act as armatures for magnets 25 and 26.

Eccentric Driven Escapement

High speed step by step electro mechanical drive is provided by the device shown. A toothed wheel 10 is secured to driven shaft 11. An arm 12 pivoted at 14 carries a detent pin 15 shown holding wheel 10. A link 16 connects arm 12 to an arm 17 mounted on a continuously rotating eccentric 18. A pin 21 in arm 17 acts as a driving pin for wheel 10. A link 22 connects arm 17 to an arm 23 pivoted at 24. Arms 12 and 23 act as armatures for magnets 25 and 26.

The operation of magnet 25 holds pin 15 in the teeth of wheel 10 (full line operation) while rotation of eccentric 18 moves pin 21 idly. With magnet 25 released and magnet 26 operated, pivot 27 is stationary and rotation of eccentric 18 through 90 degrees rocks pin 21 into engagement with the teeth of wheel 10 and rocks pin 15 out of engagement (dotted line position). Further rotation of 18 draws pin 21 down driving the wheel clockwise.
