Abstract

A capstan for a tape or film transport mechanism is shown. Rubber disks are mounted coaxially at either end of the metal capstan. The disks are ground to a slightly larger diameter than the metal capstan to provide the necessary drive friction while the metal portion provides a fixed diameter to assure uniform tape speed.
