Abstract

Center feeding of roll tape utilizing a minor tape mass supported on either a stationary support plate or on a freely rotatable unbraked turntable and a major tape mass supported on a freely rotatable unbraked turntable makes feasible a low cost, high speed, sudden stop tape feeding device without excessive tape breakage or tangling.

Center feeding of roll tape utilizing a minor tape mass supported on either a stationary support plate or on a freely rotatable unbraked turntable and a major tape mass supported on a freely rotatable unbraked turntable makes feasible a low cost, high speed, sudden stop tape feeding device without excessive tape breakage or tangling.

A fixed shaft 1 mounted on a support 2 carries a turntable 3 which is freely rotatable about the shaft 1 by means of bearings 4.

A plate 6 fixed to the shaft I carries a stud 7 which rotatably mounts a pull-off roller 8 around which tape is withdrawn from the center of a tape roll 9a-9b which is supported on the turntable 3. A plurality of rollers 10, mounted on plate 6 by pins 11 in a circle around roller 8, form a central hub around which tape is drawn in a path from the tape roll 9a-9b to the roller; 8.

In a first arrangement of the device, a second turntable 12, having its upper surface in the same plane as table 3, is rotatably mounted on the shaft 1 by bearings 13 and bridges the gap between the table 3 and the plate 6.

In a second arrangement the turntable 12 is omitted and a plate 14, fixed to the plate 6, overlaps the inner edge of the turntable 3.
