A Converter For Binary Coded Decimal To Binary Numbers

Logic is shown for parallel conversion of a binary coded decimal number to a straight binary number.

A BCD number in register 1 is gated out in parallel to a group of logic elements 2. After suitable buffering, the logic outputs are applied, in parallel, to a group of full adders (FA) and a half adder (HA) noted generally by the numeral 3. The outputs of adder group 3 are applied with suitable buffering to an adder group 4. The outputs of adder group 4 are then directly applied to a straight binary register 5 which then contains the binary equivalent of the BCD number.
