Diode Matrix

This multi-input, multi-output diode matrix constitutes a truth table and is used for table lookup in arithmetic and control units of digital computers.

Sets of input conductors 1 and 2 are evaporated or plated horizontally onto the front-side of a plate 5 of a semiconductor single crystal, for example, silicium or germanium. Onto the reverse side, the output conductors 3 are fixed perpendicularly to the input conductors. Before these conductors 1, 2 and 3 are attached, the respective intersections of conductors 3 with conductors 1 and 2 at which diodes are to be inserted according to the desired table function, are treated by local doping to establish rectifying dots 4 each of them representing a unidirectional NP connection (diode) between an input and an output conductor.

The arrangement is such that two diodes 4, a conductor 1 and a conductor 2, in combination with one of the output conductors 3, form, for example, an AND circuit.
