Display Equipment Lighting

The dual lamp projection display system maintains uniform illumination at reduced intensity in the event of failure of one of the lamps.

The system consists of two lamps 10 and 12, with associated optical wedges 14 and 16, a collective lens 18 and a projection lens 20 so arranged that information is projected onto the operator's console screen 22. The wedges divert the light from the lamps through the collective lens such that filament images are in juxtaposition within the projection lens for maximum projection intensity.

In normal operation, both lamps are on to provide as bright a display as possible. If one lamp fails, the operator still has a complete display at about half the intensity.
