composite Recording Disk

To provide a magnetic recording disk having an area bearing permanent magnetic indications and an area for recording magnetic data, a composite disk structure 11 includes a pair of spaced disk members 12a and 12b. Disk 12a has a central portion removed to receive a disk 13 which has the permanent magnetic information 14 etched on it.

The full disk 12b and the disk 12a with the enlarged opening are first coated with magnetic paint and the disk 13 is then placed in the opening in disk 12a. The elements are then placed in a mold cavity with a layer of polyurethane foam 15 between the disks. Heat and pressure are applied in the mold until the foaming is completed to bond the disks and to form their surfaces flush against the sides of the molded cavity.
