Punch Checking

The punch checking arrangement determines that a selected punch has perforated a record card.

As punch I is actuated downwardly to perforate a card, it carries a punch restoring lever 2. An extension 3 on the lever operates a plunger type shutter 4 which moves with the punch restoring arm as it travels downwardly. This aligns an opening 5 in the shutter with a fixed opening 6 at the bottom of the stroke. Light from lamp 7 now strikes the photocell 8, causing current to flow through a checking circuit 9. This indicates that the punch has perforated the card.
