Ferroresonant Transformer

(Image Omitted)

A closely regulated output voltage is provided by the ferroresonant transformer which consists of a three legged core 10 having outer legs 1l and 12 and a central leg 13 which consists of a primary portion 13A and a secondary portion 13B.

The primary 13A carries a primary winding 14 and the secondary 13B carries a secondary winding 15. Magnetic shunts 16 and 17 between the outer and central legs are interposed between the windings 14 and 15. A capacitor 18 provides a resonant condition with the winding 15 to saturate the secondary 13B.

An aperture 19 is provided in the secondary 13B and is linked by a figure 8 control winding 20. By connecting the winding 20 to a control source, such as a battery 21, the flux excursions can be varied to control the secondary voltage.
