Hydraulic System

This complementary volume adder is capable of acting as a displacement generator selectively for any one of a number of slave pistons 13, 14 or 15 in cylinders 10, 11 and 12.

The particular slave piston to be actuated is selected by valves 16 and 17. One, two or four unit volumes of fluid for moving a selected piston 13, 14 or 15 are provided by actuator cylinders 18, 19 and 20, respectively. A lever 21 pivoted at its left end is driven cyclically up and down, through a link 22 by any suitable device, and operates pistons 23, 24 and 25. As the lever 21 is driven upwardly, for example, through its full stroke, solenoids 26, 27 and 28 can be selectively conditioned. These direct fluid from the upper chamber of cylinders 18, 19 and 20 either directly to the lower chambers of the cylinders via channels 29, 30 and 31 or to the upper manifold 32.

Fluid directed to the manifold 32 is distributed to one of the cylinders 10, 11 or 12 through crossover valve 33 and valve 16 (or 17) with return being made through valve 17 (or 16), channel 34 and valves 35, 36 or 37.

By selectively actuating various combinations of control valves 35, - 36 and 37, various aggregate quantities of fluid are directed to move a slave piston 13, 14 or 15 any number of increments between zero and seven.
