Spherical Metalized Resistors

A precision miniature resistor 1 for use at microwave frequencies is shown.

A glass bead coated with resistive material 2 is held in a plastic cylinder 3 by metal caps 4 and 5 having dimples 6 and 7. These are in contact with conductive lands 8 and 9 formed on the bead.

The manufacture of the resistor includes the steps of grading the beads for size, evaporating the resistive material which precipitates on the beads, and forming the terminals. Any number of beads may be placed in one cylinder.
