Motor Speed and Direction Control

The use of a capacitor and potentiometer enables speed and direction control of a two-phase motor as a single-phase capacitor run motor.

With potentiometer slider 10 at the center position CP, the motor does not rotate. To cause the motor to rotate in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction, slider arm 10 is moved from the center position to the upper half 11 or the lower half 12, respectively. The motor speed is a function of the amount of slider arm movement.
