Contoured Bed Plate

This is a contour type bed plate for use in high speed card feeds in which the specific contours at the picker knife area and at the throat area are important to minimize card disturbance and to handle warped cards.

Between points 1 and 2 the card bed 3 is flat, being the chord of an arc described by the picker knife (not shown) which is pivoted below the card bed. Between points 4 and 5, the bed is flat and parallel to a card feed line 6, the distance 7 being 0. 125 inches. The point 8 is on a line drawn from point 2 parallel to line 6.

Between points 8 and 9 the bed also is flat and forms an angle 10 with the card path 6. The bed between points 2 and 4 describes an arc having a center 11 and is substantially tangential to the flat portions at points 2 and 4. Similarly, the bed between points 5 and 8 describes an arc having a center 12 and is tangential to the flat portions at points 5 and 8. As shown in a cross sectional view in the lower figure, the bed 3 has a taper 13 at each side.

Cards are supported only in the vicinity of the throat 14 and the picker knife (not shown) and the described configuration facilitates feeding of both warped and unwarped cards.
