Pulse Generator

The apparatus produces a burst of impulses of controllable number at output terminal 2 when a signal of predetermined duration is applied to input terminal 1.

The positive going signal on terminal I is passed through inverter 3 and causes switch 4 to produce a ground signal on the emitter of transistor 5. The resulting pulse in the emitter-collector circuit of transistor 5 induces a pulse in the secondary winding of transformer 6, which is coupled to the base of transistor 5 by capacitor 7. The resulting pulse applied to the base of transistor 5 stops conduction between the emitter and collector of transistor 5. Leakage through resistor 8 and frequency control potentiometer 9 discharges capacitor 7, so that the transistor 5 again conducts. The process is continued until the signal is removed from terminal 1. The output impulses from the secondary of transformer 6 are passed through capacitor 10 and pulse shaping amplifier 11 and are applied to terminal 2.
