Abstract

A pair of rolls 1 and 2 are rotatably supported by a member 3 for engagement with a platen 4 for feeding a stack of papers 5. Formed on the member 3 is a curved surface 6 engaging a plane surface 7 on an arm 8 supported by parallel links 9 and 10 and held against the member 3 by a spring 11. The surface 6 engages the surface 7 normally at a point 12 between the rolls.

Paper Feeding Mechanism

A pair of rolls 1 and 2 are rotatably supported by a member 3 for engagement with a platen 4 for feeding a stack of papers 5. Formed on the member 3 is a curved surface 6 engaging a plane surface 7 on an arm 8 supported by parallel links 9 and 10 and held against the member 3 by a spring 11.

The surface 6 engages the surface 7 normally at a point 12 between the rolls.

When a paper stack is fed between the roll 2 and the platen, the member 3 first rocks easily to admit the paper. As the rocking motion takes place, the point of contact 12 shifts toward the roll 2 to a point 12A and the pressure on roller 2 is increased. This increased pressure assures feeding of the stack until it passes under the roll I and rocks the member 3 to shift the point of contact again to the normal position 12. As the stack passes from under roller 2, the contact point 12 shifts to the left to a point 12B and the pressure on roller 1 is increased.
