In pulse generators or blocking oscillators in which the feedback energy is taken from the loaded output and returned to the trigger input, the load acts as a shunt by passing the trigger energy, especially if the load consists of square loop cores. This circuit reduces trigger energy and improves pulse shape.

A saturable magnetic element, e.g., a buffer core having defined switching characteristics, is serially connected to the load so that the current to the load is limited to an appropriate low value. This permits the major part of the power from the transistor to initiate the regenerative process. This reduces the required trigger energy and the pulse rise across the load becomes substantially independent of load impedance and the transition characteristics of the driving element. As shown, a transistor is used as the driving element and the limitation in pulse rise speed due to the minority carrier storage effect is eliminated. The buffer core permits fast saturation of the transistor and a well defined pulse is applied to the load. Since the transistor saturates at low current values, a substantial portion of the available power is supplied to the load.

The switching can be adapted to the special requirements of the load by applying a premagnetization to the buffer core. A reset winding is provided which serves for resetting the buffer core during the switching intervals.
