High-Speed Tape Punch

This high speed tape punch incorporates intermittent feed of the tape through the punch stations without interrupting the operation of the positive tape drive mechanism, and a punch under control of an electrostatic clutch. Punching occurs while the tape is stationary.

Intermittent tape feed is accomplished by two eccentric storage cams located on either side of the punch station, alternatively feeding and storing the tape. The cams are complementary so that while the first cam is releasing tape the second cam is storing tape, resulting in the tape being alternately stationary and accelerated through the punch station during each cycle of cam rotation.
