The function of determining that exactly two out of five bits are present is performed by biasing a magnetic core in the zero direction and then driving it to the one direction a set amount for each of the five bits present.

By using both a D. C. bias and an inhibit pulse and by time sampling the core output, a positive indication of exactly two out of five bits can be obtained. Only two bits provide the indication.
