Relay Time Delay Circuit

This circuit arrangement provides for a time delay during the pickup time as well as during the dropout time of relay B in the arrangement.

In the arrangement, when the switch closes, current is supplied to both coils of relay B, the flux generated by the coils being in opposition to each other. As the capacitor charges, the current falls and the resultant magnetomotive force causes relay B to be picked up slowly. As a result, the open B points close to energize relay A, points of the latter open to disable relay B, the capacitor discharging through both coils of B causes the latter to drop out slowly.
