Abstract

A housing 10 contains a surface 11 formed of an electrically conducting material. Placed around the surface are a series of indicator lamps 12 comprising an electroluminescent phosphor 13 and an electrically conducting transparent plate 14 with the plate 14 and phosphor 13 formed into a desired character. An individual lead 15 is connected to each plate 14. A series of lenses 17, one for each indicator lamp 12, are formed or placed in a surface 18 and a frosted glass panel 19 is secured in the face of the housing.

Character Generator Glowlamp

A housing 10 contains a surface 11 formed of an electrically conducting material. Placed around the surface are a series of indicator lamps 12 comprising an electroluminescent phosphor 13 and an electrically conducting transparent plate 14 with the plate 14 and phosphor 13 formed into a desired character. An individual lead 15 is connected to each plate 14. A series of lenses 17, one for each indicator lamp 12, are formed or placed in a surface 18 and a frosted glass panel 19 is secured in the face of the housing.

When potential is applied to a particular lead 15 and a common lead 16, a particular indicator lamp 12 will radiate light which will be focused by its associated lens 17 to form an image on the frosted glass 19.
