Magnetic multi-path structures lend themselves to fabrication of various logical devices and particularly to devices in which binary information may be propagated. As an example, a shifting register or timing ring may be fabricated wherein the use of windings for providing coupling between storage elements may be eliminated.

In the sketches above, an initial specified flux change is set into a multipath structure. By use of an n-phase driving system this initial flux change may be propagated internally across the structure.

Consider the magnetization applied by the reset winding to be in a counter- clockwise direction. A signal energizing the input winding reverses the flux in leg 1 during the coincidence of the D(B) and D(C) pulses, which causes a flux reversal in leg 2 as well. Repeated application of the pulses as shown causes the information stored in leg 2 to be progressively shifted to leg 7. Upon reversal of the flux in leg 7, an Output signal is obtained which may be utilized directly, or indirectly upon application of the D(C) and D(B) pulses, which cause the flux in leg 7 to assume a datum state, utilizing this output signal indirectly and feeding it back into leg 5 which causes flux reversal to take place in leg 2. Propagation of information in the reverse sense may also be accomplished by proper choice of switching means.
