Forming and Inserting Apparatus

This tool forms a backbend in the lead wires of component parts and inserts the components into a printed wiring board.

The component part 10 is pneumatically loaded and positioned in forming anvil jaws 11 and 12, causing a photo-electric beam to be interrupted and bring about sequential actuation of suitably formed hollow shafts 13 and 14. Formed shaft 13 grips the leads of component 10 against forming anvils 11 and 12 and bends the leads of the component upwardly. Shaft 14 is urged downwardly, engaging the lead wires, and cooperates with forming anvils 11 and 12 to complete the forming by backbending the lead wires. This operation pinches the lead wires to the shaft 14. The anvil jaws 11 and 12 are now pivoted out of the path of the shaft 14. Shaft 14 is moved downwardly, carrying the component 10 with it, to be inserted in the printed wiring board. The inserted lead wires of the component 10 are then bent under the printed wiring board, allowing the shaft 14 to return to its original position, with the component remaining in place on ,the board.
