Abstract

The pneumatic document transport has chamber 10, formed by box 12 having sides and a bottom. Top member 14 is made of sintered bronze and has an upper surface 16. Pressurized air is supplied to chamber 10 through tube 18. The air escapes in the form of jets from angled holes 20 bored in the top 14. Air escapes at a slower rate through the surface 16 of the sintered bronze member which is porous.

Document Transport

The pneumatic document transport has chamber 10, formed by box 12 having sides and a bottom. Top member 14 is made of sintered bronze and has an upper surface
16. Pressurized air is supplied to chamber 10 through tube 18. The air escapes in the form of jets from angled holes 20 bored in the top
14. Air escapes at a slower rate through the surface 16 of the sintered bronze member which is porous.

As the jets of air emerge from member 14, a laminar flow, of air is created between the document and member 14 in the general direction of the jets. Behind each jet, a vacuum is created. In the laminar air flow, a Bernoulli region of negative pressure is created.

Air escaping through the sintered member prevents the vacuum behind the jets and the negative pressure in the laminar air stream from drawing the document into contact with the member 14.

The air jets are directed toward the longitudinal center of the member 14 and toward a V-shaped stop member 22 at the right. A document 24 placed at the left end of the member 14 is centered and transported to the right to position it against stop member 22.
