The numerals 1 and 2 represent the contact rolls of two sensing stations having associated sensing brushes 1a, 1b, etc., and 2a, 2b, etc., respectively. The circuitry compares the values respectively sensed at the two sensing stations.

The central tap 11 of the transformer 10 secondary is connected to contact rolls 1 and 2. The two secondary ends are connected through rectifiers 12 and 13 and through resistors 5a, 5b, etc., and 6a, 6b, etc., respectively, to the brushes 1a, 1b, etc., and 2a, 2b, etc., respectively. The respective brush pairs 1a, 2a and 1b, 2b, etc., are connected with each other through resistors 3a, 3b and transformer windings 4a, 4b. The windings 4a, 4b are mounted on a common core 14 which also carries winding 15'of indicator 35.

As long as all of the brush contacts 1-1a, 1-1b and 2-2a, 2-2b are open, no current flows through windings 4a, 4b, as the rectifiers 12 and 13 are connected in an opposing relationship. Also, with all of the brush contacts closed no current flows, as all brushes are shorted through the contact rolls 1 and 2. On the other hand, if only one brush contact, e. g., the contact 1, 1a, is closed, a current, during the negative halfwave, flows from the lower secondary end of transformer 10 through the rectifier 13, the resistor 6a, the winding 4a, the resistor 3a, the brush 1a and the contact roll 1 to the center tap 11.
