IBM Module Escapement for System

       This article describes a novel mechanical design feeds IBM
modules from a slide pack to a vacuum pickup on a feeder mechanism.
The escapement is passive in design, which means that no power or air
is required, is any computer control required for its operation.

      Referring to the figure, the slide pack mounts into the
escapement 5, and the IBM modules are vertically (stacked on their
long axis).

      The basic feeder consists of two major parts.
     Tube Adapter 1
        The top part of the escapement 5 is machined to
        mate to a slide pack tube of IBM modules.
     IBM Module Escapement 5
        The IBM module escapement 5 consists of a pivoting
        machined guide 4 that is spring loaded into a
        vertical position.  In this vertical position, the
        top of the guide blocks the end of the slide pack.
        This prevents any IBM modules from falling out of
        the tube.

      The bottom of the guide 4 is designed so that an cylinder on
the picker can tilt the guide 4 until it is flush with the back of
the pack.  At that time, an IBM module can slide the guide 4.  As it
