Rack-Mounted Computer System

       Disclosed is a system that uses an system mounted in an
enclosed rack such the temperature and humidity of the air used to
cool electronic equipment mounted in the rack are controlled.

      The figure shows the air-conditioning system concept.  Air
rack electronics area is drawn over (1) the evaporator section,
cooling it to about  It is then mixed with (2) by-pass air and enters
(3) air moving device (AMD).  The AMD exhaust air may be controlled
depending on the amount of air used.  This air is then used to cool
the  The condenser section of the air-conditioner cooled with room
air.

      One unique feature of this system is that the same AMD is used
to cool the electronics is used to draw air the evaporator.  Since
the evaporator requires low air and the electronics usually requires
high airflow, most systems would require two AMDs.  This avoided in
this design by allowing rack air to by-pass evaporator and enter the
AMD directly.  This provides higher volume of air required to cool
the electronics.
