Abstract

The arbitration mechanism on the MICRO CHANNEL* is asynchronous and multi-drop (dot-OR).The time for the arbitration tags of devices, requiring use of bus, to stabilize is dependent on I/O devices and the and electrical characteristics of the bus. Thus, making the arbitration time on the MICRO CHANNEL the arbitration time can be optimized to systems.

Programmable Arbitration Time

The arbitration mechanism on the MICRO CHANNEL* is
asynchronous and multi-drop (dot-OR).The time for the arbitration
tags of devices, requiring use of bus, to stabilize is dependent on
I/O devices and the and electrical characteristics of the bus.  Thus,
making the arbitration time on the MICRO CHANNEL the arbitration time
can be optimized to systems.

The programmable arbitration time is implemented in the Channel
Controller(IOCC) by using four bits in the IOCC Register,  The four
bits are encoded such that arbitration time can be varied from 100 ns
to 1600 ns.  Trademark of the IBM Corporation.
