Abstract

This article describes a method for an application to specify the components it desires in a date field. Individual countries or even individual users will be able to specify only the components of date that are their preference. These specifications may be kept external to the program and brought in at window creation time making it NLS enabled. This feature makes it easier for applications to allow users to cus- tomize their windows.

Specifying the Types of Date Components

This article describes a method for an application to
specify the components it desires in a date field. Individual
countries or even individual users will be able to specify only the
components of date that are their preference.  These specifications
may be kept external to the program and brought in at window creation
time making it NLS enabled.  This feature makes it easier for
applications to allow users to cus- tomize their windows.

Create a Date control that will allow an application to have a
Date with the ability for each country or each user to choose the
type of components that make up the date.  One user could choose to
have era or weekday shown as part of its Date field while another
user may choose not to.

Allow the application the capability to choose the components
that make up the Date field. The possible choices for a date field
could include year, month, day, era, and weekday.  This information
would be passed to the date control as part of a format string at
window creation time. The format string would contain codes for each
component that the user desires.  The Date control will create and
operate only the component windows specified.
