Abstract

The disclosed system provides a way to horizontally and vertically position (center) a raster scan of a monochrome CRT display. Centering is performed during product manufacturing and adds virtually no additional cost to the product. The disclosed system has the following advantages over other systems: 1. Creates a more uniform magnetic field. 2. Provides a mechanism for simplified adjustment (facilitates full automatic setup). 3. Eliminates high voltage exposure. The current method for magnetic centering consists of two flat concentric rings mounted flush against each other.

Automatic Centering System for Monochrome CRT Displays

       The disclosed system provides a way to horizontally and
vertically position (center) a raster scan of a monochrome CRT
display.  Centering is performed during product manufacturing and
adds virtually no additional cost to the product.  The disclosed
system has the following advantages over other systems:
      1. Creates a more uniform magnetic field.
      2. Provides a mechanism for simplified adjustment
         (facilitates full automatic setup).
      3. Eliminates high voltage exposure.
      The current method for magnetic centering consists of
  two flat concentric rings mounted flush against each other.

      There are tabs on each ring in order to grasp them.  Each ring
has several magnetic dipoles on it that are equally spaced apart.  By
rotating the rings in the same direction or different directions, the
raster scan can be centered. This method of centering is fairly
difficult to perform due to the complex motions involved as well as
the difficulty in viewing the raster while trying to rotate the
rings.

      The proposed system would have the centering ring made out of
the same material that is used in consumer products, such as flexible
magnets, used to hold notes to metallic surfaces.  The centering ring
snaps in place on the yoke and is spaced far enough away from the
deflection windings that the contact surface of the electromagnet can
make flush...
