Abstract

This article describes a method for specifying the order and length of the components that make up a date field. Individual countries or even individual users will be able to display the components that make up date in a culturally pleasing manner according to their preference. These specifications may be kept external to the program and brought in at window creation time making it NLS enabled.

Specification of the Order And Length of Date Components

This article describes a method for specifying the order
and length of the components that make up a date field. Individual
countries or even individual users will be able to display the
components that make up date in a culturally pleasing manner
according to their preference.  These specifications may be kept
external to the program and brought in at window creation time making
it NLS enabled.

Create a Date control that will allow an application (by
country or by user) the ability to choose the sequence and length of
each of the components that make up the date. A country or a user
should be able to choose to show date as "era yy/mm/dd weekday", or
as "weekday month day year era", etc.  The order shown should be
completely at the discretion of the country or user.  The length of
each component (e.g., 2-digit year or 4-digit year) would also be
controlled by the country or user.

Create a Date control that will allow an application to have a
Date that allows each country or user the ability to pick the
sequence of the components of a Date field.  Also, allow the
application to choose the components' length. This information would
be passed to the Date control in a format string at window creation
time. The format string would contain codes indicating the sequence
and length of each component. The Date control would create the
individual component windows each of the correct length...
