Multi-Function Head Loader

       The head loader is used for loading and unloading head
suspension assemblies (HSAs) on and off a hard disk surface.

      In Fig. 1, a motor 3 is a linear actuator that oscillates a
block 2 back and forth.  Block 2 holds plastic arms 1.  The linear
oscillation of block 2 causes arms 1 to rise and fall by bending at
the mounting point.  The elasticity of arms 1 permits arms 1 to flex
back to the rest position when block 2 is extended.  This action
loads an HSA onto a disk surface.  Lift windows 4 are mounted on the
end of arms 1.

      There are two styles of head loaders.  Style 1, shown in Fig.2,
is for orthogonal head loading.  Style 2, shown in Fig. 3, is for
inline head loading.  Both are adjusted to set between the disk and
the suspension when in the loaded position.
