       Disclosed is a program for maintaining joined and
compressed files containing software products or components of
software products for distribution to individual workstations (1).

      For a given group of computer users there exists a repository
of tools and available software products.  This repository exists on
a "shared media" which the computer users can access.  The files
containing each product or tool are joined together into one module
and then compressed.  A module containing a product or tool is called
a "PACK". These "PACKs" or packages contain the entire software
product or tool.  If a software product has more than one function
which can be used separately from the rest of the product, the
product may have more than one compressed module associated with it.

      A table exists as shown in Figure 1 which defines the contents
of each compressed module.  This table contains the valid parameters
for the program being disclosed.  The user enters the program name
followed by the parameter associated with the desired software
package which they wish to receive.  The program searches the table
in the repository for a matching entry.  If a matching parameter is
found in the table, the associated software package is sent to the
user's computer.  the module is decompressed and split into
individual files on the user's computer.
