Abstract

This article describes a mechanism for IBM's Document Interchange Architecture (DIA) Services whereby an enterprise can specify a date and time after which, upon occurring, could validate the integrity of the document. Documents which are considered working documents may need to specify a date and time at which the document may be considered as having enough work done on the document to be considered valid. A mechanism is needed which permits enterprises to interchange this information. No mechanism currently exists in the DIA Services which identifies a date and time at which a document can be considered valid.

Identifying a Date And Time After Which a Document Can Be Considered Valid

This article describes a mechanism for IBM's Document
Interchange Architecture (DIA) Services whereby  an enterprise can
specify a date and time after which, upon occurring, could validate
the integrity of the document. Documents which are considered working
documents may need to specify a date and time at which the document
may be considered as having enough work done on the document to be
considered valid. A mechanism is needed which permits enterprises to
interchange this information. No mechanism currently exists in the
DIA Services which identifies a date and time at which a document can
be considered valid.

The Interchange Document Profile (IDP) is currently used by DIA
Services to describe the characteristics of a document as a whole. By
providing a self-defining field within the IDP which defines the date
and time at which a document can be considered valid permits
enterprises to interchange information as to when a document is
valid.

This mechanism permits enterprises to convey information as to
the validity of a document based on a date and time and to
interchange information regarding the validity of a document.
