Abstract

This article describes a mechanism for IBM's Document Interchange Architecture (DIA) Services whereby an enterprise can associate a process or an event which, upon occurring, could circumvent the integrity of the document. A mechanism is needed which permits different enterprises to identify a common frame of reference which defines an event or process which, upon occurring, invalidates a document. No mechanism currently exists in the DIA Services which defines a reference to an event or process which, upon occurring, invalidates a document.

Reference for Associating an Event Which Invalidates a Document

This article describes a mechanism for IBM's Document
Interchange Architecture (DIA) Services whereby  an enterprise can
associate a process or an event which, upon occurring, could
circumvent the integrity of the document. A mechanism is needed which
permits different enterprises  to identify a common frame of
reference which defines an event or process which, upon occurring,
invalidates a document. No mechanism currently exists in the DIA
Services  which defines a reference to an event or process which,
upon occurring, invalidates a document.

The Interchange Document Profile (IDP) is currently used by DIA
Services to describe the characteristics of a document as a whole.
Enterprises can interchange information as to the validity of the
document itself by providing a self-defining field within the IDP
which uniquely defines a document which contains the definition of an
event.

This mechanism  permits an enterprise to convey where
information regarding the  validity of a document can be ascertained
and provides a common frame of reference in which enterprises can
verify the validity of the document based on the definition of an
event.
