Notification That Latest Delivery Time Has Expired

This article describes a mechanism for IBM's Document
Interchange Architecture (DIA) mail distributions whereby an
enterprise can deliver to an originator of a distribution a
notification that the latest delivery time assigned by the originator
had expired before the distribution could be delivered.

Current notifications of undelivered mail to an originator of a
distribution are contained in the Un-Delivered Mail Log Status
Document. By providing a self-defining field within the Un-Delivered
Mail Log Status Document which contains a value which represents if
the distribution was unable to be delivered, an enterprise can be
notified as to the reason for the distribution not being delivered.

This mechanism provides the capability of notifying the
originator if the reason for the distribution not being delivered is
due to the expiration of the latest delivery time. Using this
mechanism permits an enterprise to be aware of the reasons for
un-delivered distributions and to initiate an appropriate process for
discarding or redistributing a document.
