Abstract

This article describes a mechanism for IBM's Document Interchange Architecture (DIA) Services whereby an enterprise can record what particular version was produced for a document by a particular DIA function or command. Particular actions could be performed on a document that could alter the version that is represented by the document. No mechanism currently exists in the DIA Services which would permit a service to record what document should be used as a reference for the version that was produced by a particular action being performed on a document.

Mechanism for Logging Version References to History Log

This article describes a mechanism for IBM's Document
Interchange Architecture (DIA) Services whereby  an enterprise can
record what particular version was produced for a document by a
particular DIA function or command. Particular actions could be
performed on a document that could alter the version that is
represented by the document. No mechanism currently exists in the DIA
Services which would permit a service  to record what document should
be used as a reference for the version that was produced by a
particular action being performed on a document.

By creating a historical control object which contains a
self-defining field which defines the action and a field for the
version reference which represents the version that was produced by
the DIA Service would permit enterprises to interchange information
as to what version of the document was created by a particular action
or command.

This mechanism  permits an enterprise to convey information as
to what is the current version of a document based on the lasted
action performed on the document. This mechanism also permits
enterprises to be aware of what actions and functions are producing
particular versions of a document.
