Specifying a Reply by Time for Multiple Recipients

This article describes a mechanism for IBM's Document
Interchange Architecture (DIA) mail distributions whereby an
originator can convey to multiple recipients different dates and
times by which a reply is requested for different recipients.

No mechanism currently exists in DIA whereby an originator of a
distribution can specify different dates and times by which a reply
should be sent for different recipients.  By providing a
self-defining operand on the REQUEST-DISTRIBUTION command which
contains the date and time by which the requester of the distribution
requests a reply and a self-defining field  which identifies the
particular recipient allows an enterprise upon receiving the command
to convey the information to the recipient.

The creation of this self-defining operand permits the
recipient to be aware of the date and time by which a reply should be
sent to the distribution and permits the recipient's enterprises to
automatically alert the recipient as to when a  reply should be
issued to the originator of a distribution. This mechanism also
reduces the number of REQUEST-DISTRIBUTION commands that would have
to be executed to specify different reply dates and times for
different recipients.
