Abstract

This article describes a mechanism in IBM's Document Interchange Architecture for specifying different attributes of distributions within a single REQUEST-DISTRIBUTION command. Current Document Interchange Architecture permits only one ATTRIBUTE-LIST operand per command; thus, if a requester wished to send to multiple recipients with different attributes for each of the recipients, multiple REQUEST-DISTRIBUTION commands would have to be executed.

Characteristics of a Distribution Based Upon the Recipients

This article describes a mechanism in IBM's Document
Interchange Architecture for specifying different attributes of
distributions within a single REQUEST-DISTRIBUTION command. Current
Document Interchange Architecture permits only one ATTRIBUTE-LIST
operand per command; thus, if a requester wished to send to multiple
recipients with different attributes for each of the recipients,
multiple REQUEST-DISTRIBUTION commands would have to be executed.

By providing a self-defining operand which combines the
recipient address operand and the ATTRIBUTE-LIST operand, an
enterprise can execute one REQUEST-DISTRIBUTION command with multiple
occurrences of this operand, thus permitting different attributes to
be specified for each of the recipients.

This mechanism decreases the number of commands that a
requester must issue to distribute different characteristics of a
distribution to multiple recipients.
