Cross-Referencing a Distribution

This article describes a mechanism for IBM's Document
Interchange Architecture (DIA) mail distributions whereby an
enterprise can convey to a recipient information regarding related
distributions.

No mechanism currently exists in  DIA whereby a distribution
can be cross referenced with previous distributions. Currently, every
execution of a REQUEST-DISTRIBUTION command creates a Unique Delivery
Identifier (UDI) which identifies the distribution uniquely within
the network. By providing an operand which identifies the UDI of
previous distributions on the REQUEST-DISTRIBUTION command, an
enterprise upon receiving the command could convey the information
within the operand about previous distributions which are related to
the current distribution.

The creation of a self-defining operand which may contain
multiple UDIs, which represent related distributions, permits
enterprises to display and retrieve previous distributions which are
related to the current distribution.
