Specifying Obsolete Distributions

This article describes a mechanism for IBM's Document
Interchange Architecture (DIA) mail distributions whereby an
enterprise can convey to a recipient information regarding obsolete
distributions.

No mechanism currently exists in DIA whereby a distribution can
identify previous distributions which are considered obsolete by the
originator of a distribution. Currently, every execution of a
REQUEST-DISTRIBUTION command creates a Unique Delivery Identifier
(UDI) which identifies the distribution uniquely within the network.
By providing an operand which identifies the UDI of previous
distributions which are considered obsolete by the requester on the
REQUEST- DISTRIBUTION command, an enterprise upon receiving the
command could convey the information within the operand about
previous distributions which are considered obsolete by the
requester.

The creation of a self-defining operand which may contain
fields of UDIs, which represent obsolete distributions, permits
enterprises to delete previous distributions which are considered
obsolete by the requester.
