       Disclosed is a device which is an easy, reliable, low
cost method for twinaxial cable connection and disconnection.
Communication Cable Connection

      In a multi-drop communication system (Fig. 1) between a host
and a number of terminal devices, each device must be able to
function in one of two modes:  in the middle of the line or as the
last device on the line.  If the device is in the middle of the line,
it must be able to pass signals through to the next device on the
line.  If the device is at the end of the line, it must terminate the
line by adjusting the impedance of the entire link.

      Auto-Termination Unit The auto-termination cable assembly,
shown in Fig. 2, consists of an I/O connector 1, two termination
connectors 2, 3 and intermediate cable 4.  Insulator 5 in termination
connectors 2, 3 extrudes from the cover hood 6, as shown in Fig. 3,
and mating key 7 extrudes from insulator 5.  This allows easy
connection of this terminator with a twinax plug.

      Electrical Characteristics The two termination connectors 2, 3
each have a pair of contacts 8 for receiving a pair of mating pins
from a respective twinax cable.  The electrical wiring in connectors
2, 3 is shown in Fig. 4.  When the mating cable is installed in a
connector, its pins open the switches SW 9, 10 or 11, 12.  This
removes the terminating resistors R1 and R2 from their circuits.
