Store Search Criteria in Phrase-Specific Format

This article describes a method for library users to
create search criteria using the "Phrase" specific format.

A library user may wish to perform a search function using a
stored selection criteria.  He or she may wish to create a search
criteria document, and be able to specify the document scope, the
libraries where the search should apply, and the criteria for the
search to be performed in the search criteria document.  No mechanism
prior to this architecture exists in the Document Interchange
Architecture to support this function.

This article provides a mechanism whereby a library user can
create a search selection criteria document to specify the document
scope, the libraries where the search should apply, and the criteria
for the search to be performed.

This capability is provided by defining the syntax and the
semantics of a search criteria document - phrase type using the "IN",
"FROM" and "WHERE" phrases.  This search criteria document is defined
in such a way that it will be treated as a regular document, i.e., it
can be retrieved, searched, modified, distributed, etc., and will be
able to be reused in the subsequent searches.
