Specify Contents And Format of Search Results

This article describes a method for library users to
specify the format and the contents of the search results.

A library user may wish to perform a search and be able to
store the search results in a document for later references.
Furthermore, he or she may wish to specify the contents and the
format of the search results (which library model object, which
parameter information are to be returned, in what order, etc.).  No
mechanism prior to this architecture exists in the Document
Interchange Architecture to support this function.

This article provides a mechanism whereby a library user can
specify the contents and the format of the search results. This
capability is provided by defining the syntax and the semantics of an
operand - Document Content Definition operand.  Library users can
specify this operand in the SEARCH command.  This operand contains
information, such as the object parameter (for example, Document
Interchange Profile), the sub-object parameter (for example,
Application Sub-profile), and the Parameter parameter (for example,
the Status field).
