Abstract

A technique for mimicking a file folder on a touch screen display, suitable for use with, for example, the IBM Presentation Manager* system, can be implemented with folder images, such as illustrated in the figures. Since in controlling the manipulation of the folder parts on the display, control of the left angle of the folder image (shown in Fig. 1) can be computationally expensive, it is desirable to use similar triangles to compute a non-transcendental dependent computational formula to mitigate the problem. After statistically inserting numbers into the formula, it has been computed that the average offset of the angle is between 1.8 and 2.4 pixels, which it has been found can be rounded to 2 pixels without loss of visual effect (see Fig. 1a).

achieved by simply removing 1 pixel from the intersection of two
lines normal to each other as seen in Fig. 2a.  The implementing
program can enable the user to interact with the folders by clicking
on the tab to open the folder and clicking of the body of the folder
to bring it forward.
