Method of Color Image Overlay

A method for color image overlay processing is described
which is useful for All-Points-Addressable (APA) image processing
based on the above processing diagram.

Generally, images to be processed are classified into two kinds
of images logically.  One is a base image and the other is an overlay
image.  Either APA image or CPU image can be assigned to the base
image.  The content in the color compare register is a certain color
data which is in the base image.  The content in the color "don't
care" register defines a color width.  The overlay image can be
written on the selected colors on the base image by using the color
don't care register.  The content in the color compare register is
compared with the base image.  The comparison result causes a
generation of the selection signal which selects the base image or
the overlay image.  The overlay image can be written on the outside
of the selected colors when the selected signal is inverted.  This
processing is achieved by only one write command.  This processing
has an advantage especially for the means of animation overlay.
