Select Host Print Termination Methods From a Menu

       This programming technique allows the IBM 3270 Emulation
Program to select the method by which the end of a host print job can
be detected.

      The usability of host print was impacted when a print job was
redirected to a disk file on a print server on an IBM PC LAN or
when it was directed to a disk file on the local disk.  Because it
was necessary to close the disk file before anything could be done
with the data, the 3270 Emulation Program had to be able to detect
when all of the data for a print job had been received before it
could close the disk file.

      To solve the different variations of this problem, four methods
to detect the end of a host print job were developed and implemented.
 The new methods are:
1.  By an Application
 The user may choose to write his own host and PC applications to
detect the end of a print job and to close the disk file.
2.  Timer

      The user may choose to activate a special print timer that is
set each time that a host print buffer is received.  When the timer
expires, it is assumed that all the data for the print job has been
received and the disk file is closed.
3.  End Brackets
   The user may choose to close the disk file when SNA end brackets
have been received.  This option may be chosen when the host print
application starts each print job with a begin bracket and ends it
with an end bracket.
