Dual Device Cluster Adapter Cards

A technique is described for enabling the automated
integrated system test of the IBM 9370 Series Information System by
using one IBM PC/AT Personal Computer.

An automated IBM 9370 operator's console and an automated IBM
9370 Support Processor (SP) were required in the IBM 9370 integrated
system test environment.  This required that keystrokes and screen
reading be automated to both of these entities, so that no operator
was needed to issue the keystrokes and to analyze the results
displayed. This article explains how that was implemented on the IBM
9370 Series Information System automated test line.

This implementation also met our requirement to support
microcode upload and download to the SP.

This requirement was originally architected to use two IBM
PC/AT Personal Computers and some additional software and adapter
cards for the two PC/ATs to communicate to each other.  The
additional PC/AT and the additional software and adapter cards were
eliminated and were replaced with some canned software programs and
two IBM Advanced Adapter/Device Cluster Adapter (DCA) cards that were
merged from the two separate IBM PC/ATs into the one IBM PC/AT.

One DCA card is used to communicate to the IBM 9370 (by
emulating the operator console).  It is controlled by the Terminal
Control Area (TCA) program.  The other DCA card is used for a host
IBM VM System (Virtual Machine) to communicate to the...
